Almost Five Miles and the Garden

The day ended early enough to get a decent run in; just under five miles at about 7:45 a mile, which isn't too shabby for me (especially since there are some decent hills in there. . .). I'm always a couple miles into the run when I realize how much better I feel when I get in a good run. I guess that I can't say I don't like running anymore.

So. . . Tina and I planted our garden. . . The Black Thumbs return. . . Here are some (l0-res) photos of what we planted (not photographed is the yellow squash or bell peppers). I accidentally bought some soil with manure in it, so our deck smells a little funky at the moment. It'll pass. What won't pass is Otto's desire to eat the plants and the manure. Needless to say, he is no longer allowed on the lower deck. Keep in mind, I didn't calculations on our other experiments with tomatoes and I ended up paying, on average, one dollar per cherry tomato. That's not a good number; even in California. Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated on the life and death situation stewing on the deck.

Back from Korea!

I have just returned from beautiful Seoul after a three week exercise augmentation. The trip was a lot of fun (when I was on liberty) and I enjoyed the opportunity to set foot in a couple more countries in my effort to make it to 50 (a lifelong goal). Here are a couple of photos of the trip.

In this photo, I'm actually in North Korea. This is at Panmunjeon in a building that straddles the dividing line between North and South Korea. The next photo is me eating the head of a fish. No big surprise: it tasted like fish.

Here I am in exercise gear before headed to watch. I don't think that the contrasting camouflage works. In fact, I'm pretty sure it makes me stand out. The worst part is that the vest is in Army Digital. Pretty awful. The sculpture below is in front of the Korean War Museum. It's actually a museum dedicated to the armed forces and the many, many wars that Korea, both united and divided, has been involved in. This sculpture is representative of two brothers reuniting (in a future scenario).

South and North Korea and a quick stop in Japan bring me up to 33ish. Still have a few more to go.
